What is Chain Stitch?
Natively known as "Jalakdozi", Chain Stitch is the
specialty of Kashmir; a region in Northern India.
These Chain Stitch Rugs and Cushion Covers are
made on hand made cotton cloth also known as
"Hessian cloth", in continual stitch with superior
woolen yarn, with the help of a hook type tool
natively called an "Aari" instead of a needle. A
designer traces designs while the craftsman
embroiders in two-ply or three ply woolen yarn. The
rug looks like a carpet in which the pile is substituted
by a woven texture. Chain-stitch rugs are used both
as floor coverings and wall hangings. The rugs are
supported with cloth lining, which adds to its
durability.
